    How to Build a Marketing Funnel From Scratch in 2026

    A marketing funnel isn't complicated. It's just a system that moves people from "never heard of you" to "paying customer" through intentional steps.

    The Three Stages

    Top of Funnel (TOFU): Awareness. People discover you exist. Channels: content marketing, social media, paid ads, SEO, partnerships.

    Middle of Funnel (MOFU): Consideration. People evaluate whether you're right for them. Assets: case studies, webinars, guides, email sequences, comparison content.

    Bottom of Funnel (BOFU): Decision. People decide to buy. Tools: free trials, consultations, demos, pricing pages, testimonials.

    Building Your Funnel in 12 Weeks

    Weeks 1-3: Foundation

    Define your ideal customer. What problem do they have? Where do they spend time? What do they search for? Build your landing page with clear value proposition and one conversion action.

    Weeks 4-6: Traffic

    Pick one channel and go deep. If SEO, publish 2 pieces of content per week. If paid ads, launch with $50/day. If partnerships, reach out to 20 potential partners.

    Weeks 7-9: Nurture

    Build an email sequence (5-7 emails over 14 days). Each email provides value and has a clear next step. Add retargeting ads to website visitors.

    Weeks 10-12: Convert and Optimize

    Start closing customers. Track metrics. See where people drop off. Make incremental improvements. By week 12, you have a functioning funnel.

    Funnel Metrics to Track

    • Visitors → Leads (conversion rate, target 5-20%)
    • Leads → Qualified Leads (qualification rate, target 30-50%)
    • Qualified Leads → Customers (close rate, target 10-30%)
    • Overall: CAC and LTV:CAC ratio
